  1. Area & Perimeter (Review) How would you find out how much carpet you would need for your bedroom? Learner Objective(s):As a result in learning, students should be able to… find the area of triangles, quadrilaterals, and trapezoids and apply this in composite figures CCES: • .G.6 Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, volume and surface area of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms. • MP.1 Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. • MP.2 Reason abstractly and quantitatively. • MP.3 Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. • MP.4 Model with mathematics • MP.6 Attend to precision.

  2. Using your prior knowledge, can you give me some real life examples of when you would use area? perimeter?

  3. Real life examples Area- how much carpet to put in your living room. Perimeter- put up a fence around your backyard.

  4. Area Amount of surface space that a flat object has. It’s always measured in square units. Ex: cm2, mm2, ft2

  5. Lets find the area of this surface if each square is equal to one foot using number squares. Count the number of squares. 1 2 Area = 15 square feet, or 15ft2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15

  6. How about other polygons? Triangle

  7. Square , Rectangle, & Parallelogram Area = b x h

  8. Trapezoid Area = ½ (b1 + b2) * h

  9. Let’s review… Area of a triangle is __________ Area of a square, rectangle & parallelogram is __________ Area of a trapezoid is ________

  10. Perimeter The distance around the outside edge of a flat object. It’s the total number of units

  11. Let’s find the perimeter of this surface if each square is equal to one foot. Count the number of sides. Perimeter = 24 feet or 24 ft.
