Using your prior knowledge, can you give me some real life examples of when you would use area? perimeter?
Real life examples Area- how much carpet to put in your living room. Perimeter- put up a fence around your backyard.
Area Amount of surface space that a flat object has. It’s always measured in square units. Ex: cm2, mm2, ft2
Lets find the area of this surface if each square is equal to one foot using number squares. Count the number of squares. 1 2 Area = 15 square feet, or 15ft2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15
How about other polygons? Triangle
Square , Rectangle, & Parallelogram Area = b x h
Trapezoid Area = ½ (b1 + b2) * h

Perimeter The distance around the outside edge of a flat object. It’s the total number of units
Let’s find the perimeter of this surface if each square is equal to one foot. Count the number of sides. Perimeter = 24 feet or 24 ft.
