2. Origins of Corrida De Toros Bullfighting traces its roots to prehistoric bull worship and sacrifice. Enkidu fought and killed the Bull of Heaven The Spanish introduced the practice of fighting on foot around 1726. After bullrings and initially squares were made in 1726, Francisco Romero, from Ronda Spain used the estoquea sword to kill the bull and the muletaa small cape used in the last stage of the fight.

3. Rules of Bullfighting • Each bullfight consists of six bulls and three matadors, each fights two bulls. • A bull must never have faced a man before they enter the bullring • The toreros perform in order of seniority with the senior matador going first and fourth, the second-ranked matador second and fifth and the least experienced fighting third and sixth • If a matador cannot continue the senior matador must take their place • Each bullfight is divided into three stages of thirds and lasts for around 20 minutes

4. Rules of Bullfighting • A corrida starts with a parade • A trumpet is blown to announce the first fight when the matador and his team enter the ring, and to signal the end of each stage. The bailiffs receive the key to the gate which is thrown to them by the president of the bullfight,then the bull enters the ring . The president then waves a white napkin to signal the entrance of the first bull into the ring. • It’s very important for the matador to determine the animal’s qualities.

5. Facts about bulls • Bulls are colour blind • Bulls charge because they are annoyed by the movement of the flag • Bulls used in bullfighting are bred to be agreesive so any movement will annoy the bull and it is the job of the matador to guide the bull

Juan Belmonte • Juan Belmonte García (April 14, 1892 – April 8, 1962) was a Spanish bullfighter, considered by many to have been the greatest matador of all time.[citation • in 1927 at abullfightin Barcelona. Belmonte was gored through his chest and pinned against a wall. Several other toreros rescued him • In 1919 he set the record for 109 corridas

7. Accidents • one of Spain's greatest matadors took a horn to the face • Bull leaped into spectator area – 40 injured and 14 died

8. Banning • Catalonia have banned bullfighting and hope that the rest of spain will do the same • There is a campaign recently going on called “bye bye bullfighting” • They say bullfighting is “Bullfighting is the maiming and killing of an animal for fun. Some call it art, some call it cultural heritage. It is is neither. Is wrong and it has no place in a modern and peaceful society.”
