The Hardest Thing You’ll Do In Math This Year Order of Operations adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers with fraction bars (because it’s not hard enough already)
Let’s say you have a question like this: 4 x (3 + 2) 10 ÷ (6 – 4) The fraction bar means DIVIDE. Before you divide, deal with the top and bottom so that they’re easier numbers to deal with.
Deal with the TOP(forget about the bottom): 4 x (3 + 2) BEDMAS (3 + 2) 1. Brackets 4 x (5) 2. Multiply 20 Put 20 back into the top. __20__ 10 ÷ (6 – 4)
Now deal with the BOTTOM(forget about the top): 10 ÷ (6 – 4) (6 – 4) 1. Brackets 10 ÷ (2) 2. Divide 5 Put the 5 back into the bottom. _20_ 5
_20_ 5 If the fraction bar means divide, this reads as: 20 ÷ 5 which is super easy: 20 ÷ 5 = 4
