STRUCTURAL DESIGN INCE BIOMASS ENERGY PLANT SOLID Structures & Infrastructure
ABOUT INCE'S STRUCTURAL DESIGN BACKGROUND STORY Ince Biomass Energy Plant utilizes advanced gasification technology to process 170,000t of wood waste annually. It produces 21.5MW of renewable electricity. It is expected to save 65,000t of carbon dioxide each year; the equivalent of taking 40,000 average cars off the road. Ince Biomass Plant near Ellesmere, Cheshire challenged our HAC (Part of SOLID) team on several fronts. In this presentation, we have highlighted the main challenges that had to be overcome during the design and construction of this facility. Differential and final displacements of the various structures were critical and simulating the piled foundations correctly with SCIA models was crucial. HAC (part of SOLID) liaised with Geocentrix to determine the spring constants to use for the structural design in the SCIA models.
