Steps to Take to Prevent Harassment • Keep a diary. • document the problem. • Keep detailed entries describing each time (Witnesses, who said what, when it happened). • Start low. • Start with supervisor, and express concerns. • Bring diary to present your case • Involve the law. • File a complaint with a government agency, if company didn’t handle it. • Report quickly as possible (180 day deadline).
How Can You Tell If Conduct Is Unwelcome? • Outright Rejection. • Ambiguous Rejection. • Soured Romance.
As The Accused • “You have a duty to cooperate in the investigation, regardless of whether you believe the allegations to be true or false. You will be expected to answer questions completely and honestly”.
Disciplinary Measures • Oral/ written warning. • Deferral of a raise or promotion. • Demotion. • Suspension. • Discharge. • Depending on the severity of the situation, the accuser can even face jail time.
