  11. Giannini Foundation of Agricultural Economics Library 248 Giannini Hall established 1930

  12. Established in 1928 with a gift of $1.5 million from A.P. Giannini, founder of the Bank of America. • Original mission to support research in Agricultural Economics particularly in California. That has now expanded to include Environmental Economics and international topics. • Foundation members include Faculty & Cooperative Extension Specialists from UC Berkeley, Davis & Riverside. • The Library is funded primarily by the Foundation, with some additional funding from the Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Library users include: • Faculty, staff and graduate students of the Department of Agricultural & Resource Economics at UCB (~75 students, 25 faculty) • Other frequent users: • Goldman School of Public Policy • Environmental Science and Policy Management Dept • UC Davis ARE, sister library at Davis • Geography Dept • Scholars/students • Outside researchers

Collections Approximately... • 153,000 fully cataloged unbound “pamphlets” • 21,000 bound volumes • 3200 reels microfilm • 200 maps/atlases • 1200 full text links in local online catalog • 220 ARE working papers Many rare or unique materials (50%+). The collection is particularly strong in California and the Western states, with other geographic areas included depending on faculty interest (eg. India, China, Africa). Non-circulating (except to ARE users).

  16. Recent Projects 2003 • Renovation: created more public space, new furniture, wireless network, browsing area. 2005 • 75th Anniversary exhibit in Doe. 2007 • Grant funded preservation project of unique microfilm collection (1600 reels of USDA data).

  18. Institute for Research on Labor and Employment Library (IRLE) • Founded by Clark Kerr • Control Unit: VC-Research. Director reports to AVC-Research for Social Sciences • User Community: 85 faculty, 200 students and staff, 500 extended “active” members, many community users • Collections: labor, organizations and labor law • Services: Reference, Web, Editorial, Communications • Special Projects: Digitization, Living New Deal • Referrals: We specialize in in-depth, long term reference relationships focusing on most any labor or employment issue. Please refer any employment-related question to us, ready-reference or otherwise.

Donnell Garden Pool by Thomas Church EDA is a research facility within the College of Environmental Design Other than the Curator’s salary, all funding is raised by the Archives Funding Sources include: CED Dean’s Office, The Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning, grants, fund raisers, fees, and a Friends of the Archives group.
