科技类语篇的句式比较完整,变化较少;完全句多,省略句少;长句多,短句少;且常出现以it引导的句式(如:it’s necessary that…)和以that引导的主语从句。由于科技文体要求表述严谨,所以主从复合句、同位语、插入语的使用频率较高。
一些可以表示逻辑关系的词语常出现在科技文体中,例如:hence, consequently, accordingly, however, but, also, namely, finally, generally, especially, furthermore等。
还大量使用连接性词语,例如:on the contrary, as a result, in short, for example, for instance, first, second, third, in addition, on the one hand, on the other hand, as mentioned above, as shown in…, as a matter of fact,
in conclusion, in summary, to conclude, to summarize, in theory, in practice, in principle, in comparison, by contrast, in most cases, for the most part等。这些词语在叙述、归纳、推理、论证、和概括等方面能起到语意连贯的作用。

It was Tom’s first visit to England, and he was looking forward to his first journey on London’s Underground Railway. And against his friends’ __1__, he was determined to travel __2___.
