What is a SQR? • School improvement support and intervention strategy for schools identified in the Improvement (year 1) phase of NYS Differentiated Accountability (DA) system • BOCES gives districts the support and assistance in developing and implementing improvement strategies to address the needs of schools in the Improvementphase
What is SQR? (con’t) • SQR involves development of a culture of review and ongoing improvement to guide schools and districts on a continuous journey of improvement. • A researched-based, reflective process that provides identified schools and districts with guidance on key factors that affect school success.
Accountability Designations • Based on both the number and type of student groups failing to make AYP for two consecutive years in the same content area and in the same subgroup • Accountability measure for schools: • Elementary/middle level • English Language Arts, mathematics and science • Secondary level • English Language Arts, mathematics and graduation rate
The district forms a SQR team consisting of the following: Central office staff Content area specialist School principal and identified staff SESIS (Special Education School Improvement Specialist from BOCES) Duties of the team include the following: Review of the curriculum, instruction and assessment with the NYS Common Core Learning Standards Reviews performance indicators for the indentified content area Identifies findings and recommendations Constructs written report School/District PersonnelInvolved in SQR
CEP-Comprehensive Educational Plan • Findings and recommendations from the committee are used in the development of the CEP • The CEP is a 2-year school improvement plan that includes specific strategies for improvement and progress monitoring • The CEP is submitted to NYSED
QIP-Quality Improvement Plan • Then district must work with the BOCES SESIS to implement a QIP • This is developed using the goals, objectives and improvement activities in the CEP
Timeline December 20, 2011 -Submission of SQR/CEP/QIP to Monroe 2 BOCES January 31, 2012 -Submission of SQR/CEP/QIP to NYSED
