  3. I've recently had some Apache problems, which started when I encountered

  4. this bug:

  5. <http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=155939&repeatmerged=yes><http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=155939&repeatmerged=yes>

  6. I used the hack that they mentioned at the bottom of that bug, then

  7. upgraded to the latest unstable build of Apache when it came out. This

  8. fixed Apache, which I can now use to load my Website

  9. (http://www.laniels.org/ , if you want to confirm it).

  10. At least one problem is left: I'm having troubles now subscribing new

  11. members to my lists. When I try to do that, I get the mailman message

  12. that we've hit a bug; when I look in the error log, the following looks

  13. like the relevant error:

  14. admin(5271): [----- Mailman Version: 2.0.12 -----]

  15. admin(5271): [----- Traceback ------]

  16. admin(5271): Traceback (most recent call last):

  17. admin(5271): File "/var/lib/mailman/scripts/driver", line 98, in run_main

  18. admin(5271): main()

  19. admin(5271): File "/usr/lib/mailman/Mailman/Cgi/admin.py", line 154, in main

  20. admin(5271): ChangeOptions(mlist, category, cgidata, doc)

  21. admin(5271): File "/usr/lib/mailman/Mailman/Cgi/admin.py", line 899,

  22. in ChangeOptions

  23. admin(5271): digest, send_welcome_msg)

  24. admin(5271): File "/usr/lib/mailman/Mailman/MailList.py", line 1097,

  25. in ApprovedAddMembers

  26. admin(5271): Utils.ValidateEmail(name)

  27. admin(5271): File "/usr/lib/mailman/Mailman/Utils.py", line 160, in

  28. ValidateEmail

  29. admin(5271): realname,str = rfc822.parseaddress(str)

  30. admin(5271): AttributeError: 'rfc822' module has no attribute

  31. 'parseaddress'

  32. I think the problem is that somewhere along the line, I downgraded

  33. libc6 back to an earlier version to fix my Apache problems, and apt

  34. *removed* some of my packages; I must have keyed too quickly through

  35. apt-get when it did this. I think it probably removed some package

  36. that's important to mailman.

  37. I tried reinstalling mailman (apt-get install --reinstall mailman), and

  38. apt did as I said. I still get the same problems, though; I still can't

  39. subscribe new members. Any idea what might be the problem? It looks like

  40. the rfc822 module got downgraded, or removed, or something. But a quick

  41. scan through apt-cache doesn't show any package where "rfc822" and

  42. "python" appear together. Might this be the problem?

  43. Thanks,

  44. Steve
