Our Mission Northside High School will: • Educate our future leaders to be successful in the 21st Century • Integrate the principles of hard work with the advancement of technology • Provide a platform for academic and technological excellence, sound decision making, and creative thinking • Instill a sound work ethic and develop leadership skills
Reasons for Academy • Leandro Case and Judge Manning • Align with North Carolina State Board of Education Future-Ready Students for the 21st Century Initiative • Help freshman transition • Decrease high school dropout rate • 4 R’s – Rigor, Relevance, Relationship and Results
Our Goals • Prepare students for globally competitive jobs and for a rigorous college curriculum or a military career • To create a paperless classroom • Graduate students with Microsoft Certification in many areas
How the academy operates • The academy is a cohort model that the students will be a part of for all four years. • The students will have core classes and computer classes together. • Students will submit assignments via Moodle. • Academy teachers share common planning time whenever possible.
Who is eligible for the academy? • Applicants should be Freshman entering ninth grade for the 1st time or some10th grade students who have received prior approval. • Applicants mustcomplete an academyapplication. • Applicants must have teacher recommendations. • Applicants must reflect the general population of NHS. • Applicants must be in good standing with their current middle or high school.
Code of Conduct • Maintain a C average at all times. If grade falls below a C, the students will stay for tutoring. • Students must dress-up on Thursdays. • If a student is suspended, they will go through a hearing process to determine their status in the academy.

Course Work • 9th grade - Algebra I, English I, Earth/Environmental Science, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Microsoft Excel, Access,Health/PE, and 2 electives • 10th grade – Adobe Graphic Design,World History, English II, Physical Science, Geometry, 2 electives (Courses may vary depending on middle courses completed.)
Course Work Continued • 11th Grade - English III, Civics and Economics, Algebra II, Biology, E-Commerce 1, Multimedia & Web Page Design, and 1 Foreign Language or elective • 12th Grade – Adobe Web Design, Adobe Video Design, English IV, Early America, US History, 4th Math, 2ndForeign Language, or elective internship and dual enrollment opportunities
