Business Development • Work closely with academics to identify strategic research strengths and to encourage an innovative research culture. • Promote academic research portfolio to a diverse range of businesses, and funding bodies (including EPSRC, BBSRC, MRC, TSB, EU, Knowledge transfer partnerships and CASE) and opinion formers at industrial meetings, industry focus groups, workshops and national and international showcasing events , project partnering events. • Work closely with funding bodies and collaborators to identify the requirements for collaborative projects • Support academics in obtaining collaborative and industry-linked research funding. • Identify collaborators and partners for projects: • Internally: linking academics from different schools • External collaborators: Industries

Technology Strategy Board has a budget for 2008-2011 of £711 million + £180M Regional Development Agencies + £120 million from the Research Councils. = EPSRC committing at least £45M over 3 years Strategic Plan which will be published in Spring 2008. Key application areas currently include: ●Environmental sustainability. ●Energy generation and supply. ●Healthcare. ●Transport. ●Creative industries. ●High-value services. ●Built environment. Mechanisms: ●Collaborative research and development ●Knowledge Transfer Networks (KTNs) ●Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs)
