  10. How far from home are ETSU Students • Majority (51.9%) come from five closest counties: Washington, Sullivan, Carter, • Greene and Unicoi • 67% live within 10 East TN Counties • 80% East TN, 4.5% Middle TN, 1% West TN, 14.5% Out of State

  11. Low Income • 76% of our total student population receives some financial assistance in order to enroll in the university • 48% of ETSU students were awarded Federal grants for the 2008-2009 year.

  13. Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship (TELS) • 4155 students received a TELS in 2008 (3500 anticipated Fall ‘09) • 79% retain their scholarship (2.75 @ 24 hrs for first two years and 3.0 after) • Need H.S. GPA of 3.0 or 21 ACT to qualify • Dropping classes may cause a student to lose TELS

  17. Drinking Habits of ETSU Students • 54.8% consumed alcohol in the past 30 days • 25.4% reported binge drinking in the previous two weeks. (binge is defined as consuming 5 or more drinks in one sitting). • 17.3%  are Lifetime Abstainers (CORE Norm = 12.9%); 23.6% are Last year abstainers (Core Norm = 15.8%) • 76.3% consume 2 drinks or LESS a week on average.

Transfers at ETSU • One third of new students are transfers • Retained as well or better than native students • Increasing in numbers gradually but consistently • More students have transfer credit both traditional age and older • 300 Articulation agreements with 15 partnering institutions • Midway Scholars Honors Program and Transfer APS available • Transfers are less likely to be involved • Admissions, ACTS & Transfer Articulation work with these students

Retention and Graduation 70% of freshmen entering in Fall 2008 returned to classes in Fall 2009 • 19.4% of 2005 entering Freshmen graduated four years later. • 35.2% of 2004 entering Freshman graduated in five years. • 42.4% of 2003 entering Freshmen graduated in six years First-time Full-time Baccalaureate Degree-Seeking Freshman
