Alger Hiss was born on November 11, 1904 -He went to Harvard Law School, where he met Felix Frankfurter -Hiss helped plan for peace as World War II was ending, Hiss was also in charge of setting up the UN -In 1945 Hiss was asked to fly the new U.N. In 1948 Hiss was first charged of being a secret communist by Whittaker Chambers • Hiss denied it, but Chambers showed that Hiss gave Chambers documents for transmission to the Soviet Union • The trial ended and Hiss was sentenced to 44 months in jailHiss said about jail that it had been a learning experience • Hiss found 40,000 pages of FBI documents that had evidence that he was innocent and asked that the verdict be overturned • It was turned down by the courts, but he was readmitted to the Mass. bar in 1977 Click me to learn more Click Me to learn more

The Rosenbergs were arrested in 1950 and could not post the $100,00 bond so they remained in the New York House of Detention. • The jury was made up of non-Jewish accountants and auditors. • Ethel denied the allegations against her but she was very composed, almost cold, and gave the false impression that she was in charge of the spy ring.
