  2. Lambaste • Lambaste – verb – attack usually with words, or criticize harshly. • The mother lambasted her child at the baseball game because he didn’t know how to behave himself.

  3. impasse • Impasse – noun – A situation in which no progress is possible, because of disagreement. • After Michael was proven guilty for violating his probation, Judge Abrams extended his probation because he felt that the situation was at an impasse.

  4. jargon • Jargon – noun – slang. • As Reba was texting her mother she happened to use the text jargon “lol” meaning laugh out loud and her mother didn’t understand.

  5. deter • Deter – verb – Prevent or block. • While little baby Sabrina stood in her crib, she almost fell but the cribs arm deterred her from falling.

  6. tenuous • Tenuous – adj – Weak, thin. • While Samantha and her boyfriend were arguing, their relationship became tenuous.

  7. Vigorous • Vigorous – adj. – Energetic, powerful. • After drinking two cups of coffee James was so vigorous and his mother had no idea why.

  11. Vehement • Vehement – adj. – Showing strong feeling, forceful, passionate, or intense. • Sammy was so upset at his boss so he began to show vehement.

  12. preeminent • Preeminent – adj – Superior, outstanding, distinguished, above the rest. • Billy had asked his mother to buy him a ball, his mother asked him “would you like the blue ball, its preeminent you will find no other like it.”

  13. resurgence • Resurgence – noun – Rebirth. • Many people wanted the old city of Camden to experience resurgence when they found out that the government was taking over and financing their money in a worse neighborhood.
