  1. Soulfood Shonali - The Complex Dynamic Between Your Immunity & Skin: Atopic Dermatitis Atopic Dermatitis: Your Skin Health & Immunity Atopic Dermatitis comes under the group of inflammatory skin conditions termed Eczema. Eczema is known to cause itching, dark, scaly skin, rashes, blisters, and several other skin infections. Atopic Dermatitis is also the most common type of Eczema. The condition can be a result of certain genetic factors, environmental triggers, food, and, most popularly, an overactive immune system. An atopic dermatitis diet can help you identify these triggers and minimise the frequency of flare-ups. When our body detects any foreign bodies, allergens, or irritants, the immune cells immediately get to work to eliminate them. However, at times, due to certain imbalances in the gut, your immune system can become overactive and lose the ability to distinguish between healthy cells and foreign invaders. This condition is known as an autoimmune condition. A weakened immunity leads to a weakening of the skin barrier. While a compromised skin barrier leaves it more exposed to irritants in the environment, weak immunity can cause imbalances in the blood condition, such as overly acidic blood condition. Food as a Medicine for Atopic Dermatitis Being mindful of what you eat and how you prepare your food is one of the most effective and long-term cures for Eczema. You can enrol in a cooking workshop for chefs to learn more about how food affects your health, the different types of food groups, and how to prepare well-balanced meals. Macrobiotics emphasise the significance of developing a healthy relationship with the food you consume to retain its nutritional value and medicinal properties. The workshop begins with the fundamentals of macrobiotics as a philosophy and lifestyle, your skin health, how different foods carry different impacts on your skin, cooking methods, and how a diet can restore your body to its optimal condition. Macrobiotics derives its inspiration from the zen philosophy of yin and yang, or balancing opposite energies. An atopic dermatitis diet includes food in a way that balances the alkaline and acidic energies in your intake. The diet begins by cleansing your gut of the toxins it has accumulated in the past. It will then proceed to focus on empowering the good bacteria, strengthening your immunity, and restoring the body’s pH. This is effortlessly achieved by including organic foods and adopting the right cooking methods to prepare them. Our body remains our one true abode as we chart our way through life. Unlike video games, there stands no option for respawning or beginning over. Paying heed to our health in the present is a way of sustaining a healthy mind-body-spirit balance through the years to come.
