After being charged with a crime, you may want to come forward and plead guilty. 1. Why You Need a Lawyer If You Want to Plead Guilty?

  2. After being charged with a crime, you may want to come forward and plead guilty. Your consciousness is not letting you sleep, you feel bad about it and you just want to get over with. However, at that point, the WORST thing that you could do is plead guilty without consulting with a legal professional. Every year, there are thousands of individuals who rush and plead guilty without talking to their attorneys first. As a result, they end up spending years behind bars without knowing that it all could have been different. If you are in that situation, and you want to plead guilty but you happen to read this first, please consider the following before you do anything that could change your life completely.

  3. Unnecessary Guilty Plead Sometimes, you just want to accept the blame and hope that the prosecutors will treat you better or take it into consideration as your way of showing “cooperation”. However, that is not the way to do it, especially for something that you may not be guilty of in the first place. To prevent any unnecessary actions, always consult with your attorney first. If you do not have an attorney, to begin with, why not pick up the phone and call Los Angeles criminal defense attorneys right away?

  4. After scheduling a free consultation, you will feel much better knowing that it may not be your fault or responsibility for past events. Once at the consultation, feel free to tell attorneys what happened, and after careful evaluation, they will tell you whether or not you are guilty and if you should plead guilty or not. In the majority of cases, it is better to try and get a good defense, rather than simply pleading guilty. With the first option, you at least get a chance to fight for your freedom, while with the latter option, you literally “give up” and hope for the best.

  5. Guilt Plea Has Consequences Most people do not understand the consequences of pleading guilty. There are always some unforeseeable consequences that could and most likely will affect your future. These are: • Loss of your driver’s license • Probation • Deportation (you and your family) • Loss of your Professional License • Prohibit from owning a firearm • Impeding you from living in public housing • Reducing your earning potential and employment options Some consequences could affect your family members as well. Think about that before you decide to plead guilty.

  6. Even When Guilty, An Attorney Could Help Reduce the Sentence Even in cases where you are 100 percent guilty before you ask for a plea, you should consult with your attorney. In the process, your attorney could negotiate a plea agreement with the state, and help reduce sentencing. Criminal defense attorneys in Los Angeles are experienced negotiators, and they know how to properly handle the negotiations with the prosecutors. They will present your circumstances in the right way, one that is beneficial to you. In the end, you may get to plead guilty and still get something out of it. Think twice before you plead guilty before speaking with an experienced attorney.
