  1. Tips for Choosing a Funeral Director When somebody you love dies, even if it was expected, it’s an extremely traumatic experience. No matter how prepared we try to be, we’re never fully prepared for the loss and some of the feelings that are part of the grieving process. One of the things to watch for, particularly in the early stages of the grieving process, is impaired judgement. So with that in mind, when somebody you love dies and you are in the very early stages of mourning, how do you go about finding some reputable funeral directors in Sydney to talk to about the arrangements for your loved one’s funeral? A good funeral director will know what you need When you talk to a funeral director for the first time their focus should be on informing and reassuring. They should articulate the formalities that need to be addressed such as

  2. arranging for a death certificate and having the body taken in to their care. They should be making you feel as though they are in control of the process and there to make your burden lighter. They should be clear about what they provide and what they don’t In the interest of making your burden lighter, you shouldn’t get any nasty surprises while you are organising a funeral and a bigger bill than you expected after the funeral. Everything should be specified and everything that you may need such as optional extras and personal touches should be out in the open and discussed up front. Disreputable funeral directors always seem to have items that weren’t included in the price. Grieving is tough, the last thing you need is a funeral director making it tougher. The cost of a funeral can vary - talk options The cost of a funeral has gone up considerably. It’s not a bad idea to look into pre-paid funeral plans to negate the escalation in cost. Traditional funeral services have made way for less expensive options. The majority of funerals today are cremations and price is one of the main reasons for people making that choice. And a cremation without a funeral service is an even less expensive option. A full service funeral with cremation comes in at about half the cost of a full service funeral and burial. And there are variations on the service and cremation option. For example, you could choose to have a memorial service at home or in a community centre and then have your loved one cremated. A good funeral director should be able to provide an affordable funeral and a fitting farewell.
