  3. INTRODUCTION SILMS aims to assist you in managing your computerized library collections to make your tasks easier and faster giving you more time to do active reference service to your clients in the library.

  4. SILMS BACKGROUND • A homegrown integrated library management system (ILMS) initiated by STII in cooperation with DOST ScINET librarians and IT experts. • Aims to provide an open source ILMS that can be used in information handling, processing and services needs of the DOST libraries and information units. • Available for free to other government libraries and information units. • Uses standard MARC Field tags.

MATERIAL TYPES DEFINITION • Analytics - An entry in a catalogue for a part of a book, periodical or other publication, article or contribution of separate authorship in a collection (volume of essays, serial, volume of musical composition, etc.) • Books - A division of literary work, which is separately published and has an independent physical existence, although its pagination may be continuous with other volumes.

  11. Library Holdings Management Module • It provides librarians with modules to manage their holdings in the library. It also lets librarians add, modify, or delete holdings records. • Specifically it involves the following activities - Stamping of ownership - Accessioning - Cataloging - Preservation as well as control - Organization and shelf preparation

  14. Patron Management Module • Patron Management module provides interfaces that allow the libraries to manage their patrons. The librarians can create different types of patron (e.g. Student, Employees, etc.) and assign different sets of circulation policies for a particular patron. The information to be supplied will be valuable during circulation management.

  15. Circulation Management Module • Circulation Management module handles the circulation activity made by the patron in the library. It records different transactions in the library such as lending, checking, and renewal of library material, making reservations, and holding of specific item for a patron. It also enables the librarians to monitor their library items for accountability and inventory purposes.

Report Generation • Generation of the following library reports. a. librarians statistics of holdings in their libraries, b. tracks circulation activities of library items, c. labels for cataloging and tagging of library materials, d. Card catalogs - shelf list card - Author card - Title card - Subject cards

  20. Admin and Security Management Module • Handles different access permission for librarians/representatives. • Filter users who does not have a valid login and attempt to access the system illegally.
