  2. What is an Alchemist? An Alchemist is a person who believes in alchemy (an ancient tradition that believed in creating the mythical “Philosophers Stone”). The “Philosophers Stone” refers to a grain that could change molten lead into the purest form of gold. This theory was one of the first chemical beliefs and went throughout the 20th Century.

Alchemy can be viewed as a protoscience, a precursor to modern chemistry, having provided procedures, experiments, equipments and terminology that are still used today It is was started in the Islamic world in the middle ages, then it travelled to Europe from the 13th -18th century. In the 20th century, the Alchemy belief was revived.

  4. Stereotypical Views In later years, people viewed alchemists as mysterious experts belonging to a secret society that exchanged messages in secret code form. They were also seen as having paranormal powers, which allowed them to do magical things and live to extreme old age.

  5. Contributions & Significance Alchemy was an early form of chemical technology that explored the nature of substances. It is a philosophy of mankind’s place in the scheme of things. Alchemy developed a language emblematic symbolism, which is used worldwide. Practical applications of alchemy produced a wide range of contributions to the medical and physical sciences, such as transforming heavy metals and toxic herbs to remove their bad health.
