Social Enterprise Fund - Objectives To enhance the reputation of Canterbury as an idyllic place to live and visit, and provide the following community returns: Help support employment opportunities and outcomes Encourage innovation and self sufficiency Encourage community participation We are looking for projects which meet at least one our five pillars: social, cultural, economic, environmental or scientific community benefits

Social Enterprise Fund - Details The Panel made up of three of our Canterbury based Trustees, and three independent people The Fund Plan for $2.5 million over two years Plan to have 10 – 12 projects supported through the Part 2 stage Plan to fund 4 – 5 projects BUT – it depends on the great ideas are generated as to how many we fund and for how much

The Applicant Meet our normal criteria Base your philanthropic work in Canterbury Have a solid management team and governance Demonstrate capacity to carry out plan Show there is a market demand Show a sustainable business plan Share your progress with us Work with our mentors Work with our researchers

The Application – Your Organisation Your Organisation Questions 1 – 9 are standard TCCT questions Q5 – Is your organisation affiliated to others if your application is from a consortium of groups then make mention of that here Organisation Purpose If the application is coming from a group of applicants, then please complete this section for each member group Demographic material as Business as Usual

The Application – Your Project The Idea Your elevator speech on what your idea is (try and limit to 100 words) The Strategy Strategy for the project Vision (future looking inspirational statement) Mission (fundamental purpose of the organisation) Values (shared beliefs within the organisation) Strategy (path to achieving the vision)

  8. The Application – Your Project Collaboration Who you are collaborating with. Why? Objectives SMART objectives around project outcomes Specific Measurable Attainable Relevant Timebound

  9. The Application - Your Project Market Environment Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities Threats As a part of this you may choose to do a PESTLE analysis Look at the effect of external elements on plan Positive Negative Weaknesses Strengths Internal Factors External Factors Threats Opportunities

  10. The Application – Your Project What is the need / evidence of the product / service Talk through how you might test this in your Part 2 Have you had discussions with key stakeholders? Have they endorsed your plan? Competitor Assessment What others are doing in this space? Who are they? Why is your proposal different?

The Application – Your Project Structure and Governance Cover your proposed legal structure Collaboration – how do you see it governed to ensure partner objectives are met Operations Planning Think about how you will operate the social enterprise Location Process flows? What might your organisation chart look like?

  14. The Application – Your Project Financial Requirements for Start-up How much do you need to set this Social Enterprise up? Where is it coming from? What do you want from us? On going Business Model Where are the revenues coming from? Where are the major costs? Will there be a large requirement for Working Capital?

  15. The Application – Your Project Check against our criteria How will it help with sustainability? How will it help with employment opportunities? How will it help with community participation? Five Pillars Ensure your project meets at least one of these pillars: Social Cultural Economic Environmental Scientific
