The Basics of Writing a Good Plan • 1. Define the Problem or Need you will meet. • 2. Create a product or service to meet that need. • 3. How will you tell people about it? • 4. What needs to get done and who will do it? • 5. What things or people will you need to grow and how fast will you grow? • 6. How much will it cost you to do it and how will you pay for it?
Define the Problem What problem do you want to solve or what need do you want to meet. Ex: When people are hungry they NEED food. Ex: Transportation solves the problem of getting from one place to another quickly.
What is your solution? • Be innovative! Can you find a new way of doing things that might be better, use less resources, be more efficient, sustainable… • What do you need to start? KNOWLEDGE • What skills or knowledge do you have or what do you need to learn? • How will you learn it? (school, research books/internet, ask a friend) • Can you find someone who knows how to do it? • Ex: If you run a restaurant you might hire a cook. RESOURCES -How much money do you need to start? -Do you have it? Do you need it? Where do you get it? -Microfinance -What equipment or tools do you need? -ex: restaurant needs tables, chairs, silverware
How will you tell People about it? • Radio • Newspaper • Email • Text Message • Word of Mouth • Other Ideas?
Who will do it? • Finding a good team • A Good team makes things run more smoothly and successfully • Should you work with your family, friends, or someone else? • Ex: education background, recommendations from contacts, Linked In • It is important to train your staff properly
Development • Make a plan for rapid growth • Make a plan for change • Make an exit strategy
