The End of Time Pt 1 Resurrection of the Dead
Resurrection..... Intro... Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. Heb. 6:1-2
Resurrection..... In this next two part study, we will be moving from examining the doctrines which have to do with this life and time unto the last two which have to do with Eternity. Many people think of eternity to mean an endless extension of time. This however is very different from our world and has to do with the dimension where God lives
Resurrection..... Before the mountains were brought forth or ever You had formed and given birth to the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting You are God. Ps 90:2 For thus says the high and lofty One—He Who inhabits eternity, Whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, but with him also who is of a thoroughly penitent and humble spirit.... Isaiah 57:15
Resurrection..... And God said to Moses, I Am Who I AmandWhat I Am, andI Will Be What I Will Be; and He said, You shall say this to the Israelites: I Am has sent me to you! Ex 3:14 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, says the Lord God, He Who is and Who was and Who is to come, the Almighty (the Ruler of all). Rev 1:8
Resurrection..... God is in all things and through Him everything in time and space have their being. For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things. Romans 11:36 Before, Behind, beneath, between and beyond the whole space-time continuum, the eternal existence, nature and being of God exists unchanged.
Resurrection..... The clock behind all clocks is the human heart. When this clock ceases to beat, then all other clocks cease to tick. For each individual, the end of life is the end of time. Everyone of us has an appointment with eternity that cannot be rescheduled And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgement. Heb 9:27
Resurrection..... • So where does that leave you when you criticize a brother? And where does that leave you when you condescend to a sister? I’d say it leaves you looking pretty silly—or worse. Eventually, we’re all going to end up kneeling side by side in the place of judgment, facing God. Your critical and condescending ways aren’t going to improve your position there one bit. Read it for yourself in Scripture: • “As I live and breathe,” God says,“every knee will bow before me;Every tongue will tell the honest truththat I and only I am God.” Rom 14:10-11 Message
Resurrection..... • Why do you criticize and pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you look down upon or despise your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of God. • 11 For it is written, As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God [acknowledge Him to His honor and to His praise]. Rom 14:10-11 Amp
Resurrection..... Two Fixed Appointments you must keep: • Appointment with eternity – Death • Appointment with God – Judgement And just as it is appointed for [all] men once to die, and after that the [certain] judgment, Heb 9:27 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 2 Cor 5:10
Resurrection..... • Son of man, wail over the multitude of Egypt and cast them down, even her and the daughters of the famous and majestic nations, to the netherworld, with those who go down to the pit; • 19 Whom [among them] do you surpass in beauty? Go down and be laid with the uncircumcised (the heathen). Ezekiel 32:18-19
Resurrection..... • And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake: some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting contempt and abhorrence. • 3 And the teachers and those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness (to uprightness and right standing with God) [shall give forth light] like the stars forever and ever Dan 12:2-3
Resurrection..... There was a certain rich man who [habitually] clothed himself in purple and fine linen and [a]reveledand feasted and made merry in splendor every day. 20 And at his gate there [b]was [carelessly] dropped down and left a certain [c]utterly destitute man named Lazarus, [reduced to begging alms and] covered with [[d]ulcerated] sores. 21 He [eagerly] desired to be satisfied with what fell from the rich man’s table; moreover, the dogs even came and licked his sores. 22 And it occurred that the man [reduced to] begging died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And in Hades (the realm of the dead), being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far away, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried out and said, Father Abraham, have pity and mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame... Lk 16:19-24
Resurrection..... When you die: • The spirit is separated from the body • You go up or you go down • Memory is intact • Senses are intact • You have a ‘body’ on the other side • You can be recognised • You are in torment or bliss
Resurrection..... Christ – pattern and proof I have set the Lord always before me;Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope 10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.11 You will show me the path of life;In Your presence is fullness of joy;At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Ps 16:8-11
Resurrection..... Peter quotes this verse in • Acts 2:25-28 • 25 For David says in regard to Him, I saw the Lord constantly before me, for He is at my right hand that I may not be shaken or overthrown or cast down [from my secure and happy state]. Amp
Resurrection..... And He answered him, Truly I tell you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise. Luke 23:43 • But He ascended?] Now what can this, He ascended, mean but that He had previously descended from [the heights of] heaven into [the depths], the lower parts of the earth? • 10 He Who descended is the [very] same as He Who also has ascended high above all the heavens, that He [His presence] might fill all things (the whole universe, from the lowest to the highest). Eph 4:9-10
Resurrection..... For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us[a] to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 19 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, 20 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited[b] in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. 1 Pet 3:18-20
Resurrection..... But the fact is that Christ (the Messiah) has been raised from the dead, and He became the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep [in death]. 1 Cor 15:20,22
Resurrection..... When a Christian dies: • And while they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, Lord Jesus, receive and accept and welcome my spirit! • 60 And falling on his knees, he cried out loudly, Lord, fix not this sin upon them [lay it not to their charge]! And when he had said this, he fell asleep [a][in death]. Acts 7:59-60
Resurrection..... • Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: • 7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) • 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 2 Cor 5 -8
Resurrection..... For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from mylabor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. 23 For[a] I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. 24 Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you. Phil 1:21-24
Resurrection..... • Do not be surprised and wonder at this, for the time is coming when all those who are in the tombs shall hear His voice, • 29 And they shall come out—those who have practiced doing good [will come out] to the resurrection of [new] life, and those who have done evil will be raised for judgment [raised to meet their sentence]. John 5:28-29
Resurrection..... • But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.[a] • 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these 1 Thess 4:13-18
