Reducing Alcohol Misuse • Development and implementation of Joint Alcohol Policies • planning a summit on alcohol with our four Local Authorities with the highest death rates from alcohol related harm • Alcohol has been agreed as a priority for community planning and within the SOA with Glasgow City.  • Finalising planning on training and implementation of brief interventions to make best use of new funding. • The NHS Board, with the city of Glasgow is also investing heavily in the provision of alcohol support services, alcohol rehabilitation services and services for individuals with an Alcohol Related Brain Damage

Access Targets • Achieved 98% national guarantee in A&E in December 2007, and sustained this position for 7 months • Achieved maximum waiting times target in inpatients and day cases • Achieved maximum waiting times targets in outpatients • Waiting time targets delivered in Cataracts, Hip surgery following fracture, Angiography, Angioplasty, diagnostic scans and endoscopies • 48 HOUR access to Primary Care – achieved

Unscheduled Care Collaborative A&E HEAT Target Aim: to support achievement of 98% A&E Waiting Time Target through re-design of patient pathway • Developments within A&E • Assessment/Receiving/Admission • Bed Management/Discharge Planning • Out of Hospital – Supporting early discharge/prevention of attendance

Financial Management • In 2007/08, the Board remained within its resource limits for both revenue and capital expenditure, and achieved its targeted level of cost savings. • This includes £7m of cost savings within Clyde, leaving a residual funding gap of £19m to be tackled in 2008/09 and 2009/10 – on target to achieve further £9m of savings in 08/09 • Progress of Acute Service Review and Outline Business Case for the South Glasgow Hospital and the new Children’s Hospital

Community Maternity Unit • Consultation period completed • Recommendation to NHSGGC Board on 19th August to sustain birthing services at Inverclyde and Vale of Leven for 3 years supported by communications campaign to increase utilisation • Full range of post and ante-natal services will continue to be delivered

  12. Clyde Wide Mental Health • Consultation period completed: paper to Board on 19th August on Clyde Mental Health • Bulk of strategy is non-contentious • Clear way forward accepted for South Clyde • Major debate has centred on Christie and Fruin wards

Frail Elderly / Elderly Mental Health • Examining option to separate 'Elderly' 'functional' beds from 'Adult' beds in current Christie ward • Looking at potential relationship, including all staffing and cover issues, with beds currently provided in Fruin Ward • Potential to use spare accommodation attached to Fruin with minor works to separate patient groups • Examine potential for linkages with frail elderly and rehabilitation services in next stage

Unscheduled Medical Care • Report of external experts recommends that:– significant proportion of ‘selected’ GP assessed admissions should continue – significant proportion of admissions from ‘self-presenting’ cases can continue – Anaesthetics is not sustainable • Detailed work on protocols and staffing model to be taken forward during consultation period

Alexandria Medical Centre • In addition to care home development, plans have also been developed for a new Alexandria Medical Centre • Estimated capital cost of circa £17m – draft OBC now ready for submission • Full planning permission granted to develop on the Vale of Leven site • Can become part of overall Vale campus and increase integration of primary and secondary care.

  16. Opportunities for brining additional services to the site • Regional specialist services – Oral\dental health • Additional dialysis capacity • Medical and surgical specialties– Urology– Rheumatology– Gastroenterology

Engagement and Consultation Arrangements • NHS Board formally receives responses to maternity and mental health consultations on Tuesday 19th August • Engage Scottish Health Council in discussion about timetable for final stage of consultation on future vision • Recognising pre-engagement on mental health and unscheduled medical care already carried out • Bring forward in September, 2008 final set of proposals covering all future aspects of service sustainability for the Vale of Leven site, including unscheduled medical care
