Effective Planning and Implementation of MFWHSR involves: • Collecting Data in relation to student learning and student engagement. • Meaningful school and community engagement of all partners in education; including students, parents and families, teachers and other school staff, business and industry, communities and not-for-profit organizations. • Which leads to: • Enhanced learning by increasing achievement, engagement of allstudents and quality teaching.

Foundational Principles of MFWHSR: Group Activity • Take a few moments to read the description of the Foundational Principle. • As a group, use the chart paper to summarize the main points in relation to the Foundational Principle. • Discuss the following in your group: • What strategies have we put into place with staff and students to support this Foundational Principle? • What strategies might we want to startor stopdoing in relation to this Foundational Principle to support learning?

What holds us back? • A lack of common vision and a misunderstanding or lack of understanding of the WHY leads to: • Fear of change • Leads to “resistance” • Risk relying on a single form of data to inform • People do not buy what you do, they buy why you do it. • It is not WHAT we do in MFWHSR, it is WHY we do it Flex Time Teacher Advisor Credit Recovery Blended Courses Competencies Quality Learning Experiences Quality Teaching Ensuring Student Success Allowing All Students to Thrive High School Completion

If all stakeholders can understand WHY they are doing something and work together on a common understanding of that WHY, while also ensuring voice in the decision making process, it will lead to successful implementation of Moving Forward with High School Redesign. • Our work during this workshop is to focus on the WHY.
