23 January - 30 September 2020 DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN TOKYO On arrival in Tokyo, our representative will meet you and help you transfer to the hotel by shared shuttle. (Optional: transfer by train or private vehicle depending on your choice and your expenses) Time to relax or walk around Japanesestyle restaurants in the area of your hotel, if you're still full of energy! Try local sake, Japanese beers, sashimi, dried fish and fried foods in a traditional atmosphere that has persisted for three hundred years. Optional excursion: Evening foodie tour: our professional and friendly guide will take you to non-touristy Izakaya in Ginza where you can feel like a local. DAY 2: TOKYO – FULL DAY CITY TOUR (B) After breakfast, your private guide takes you on a tour using the inner-city public transit system to visit the magnificent Meiji Shrine, a Shinto shrine dedicated to the Meiji Emperor, and the most popular place in the city for weddings and end-of-year "Hatsu-mode." And then stroll at the peaceful Hamariyku garden, the former private garden of an Edo Period Lord. Here you will stop for a Japanese green tea. What a way to start the day and relaxing ride on the Sumida river bus to have a different view of Tokyo and its futuristic buildings, including an 18-meter tall Gundam robot statue. Followed by a journey to Harajuku and Omote-Sando, also known as Tokyo’s ChampsElysee. 1-day hidden Kamakura & Enoshima Bay Drive Tour: Visit famous sights of hidden Kamakura such as the Great Buddha statue at Kotoku-in Temple, and take in the beautiful ocean scenery of Enoshima on this bus tour. DAY 4: TOKYO – KYOTO (B) After breakfast, take a bullet-train ride to Kyoto, the ancient capital city of Japan. This city stands as it did for hundreds of years, and the older part of town is actually protected to prevent it from turning into another shrine to modernity. Make your own way from train station to the hotel. Our company representative meets you at your hotel to provide you with the information about your tour in Kyoto and how to make most out of your stay during self-guided days. In the afternoon, join a tea ceremony at "machiya," a restored traditional wooden house that is typical to Kyoto and many parts of Japan. If you wish, try on Japanese traditional dress, kimono (on your expense). There are many styles and colors, and see how the outfit works on you. Free evening to enjoy at your leisure to walk through Gion, where you may get a glimpse of Geisha, walking through the narrow alley. You start with the grand Nijo Castle, a sprawling, breath-taking example of comfortable luxury in Japanese nature. History has changed the face of this complex many times - see the footprints of each of its iconic owners, and walk the "chirping" nightingale floors that were so popular in construction during this building's heyday. We then visit Ryoanji, famous for its UNESCO-protected World Heritage zen gardens. You may find it nostalgic, as it has been featured in many movies and cited often for inspiration by creators and entrepreneurs alike. The Zen rock gardens are quintessential for posters and calendars of Japan - you may even feel a sense of nostalgia as you view it while sipping green tea. We then take you to Kinkakuji. The location of many films and novels, this pavilion which is completely coated in gold was originally built as a summer house for a shogun. It has become a symbol of luxury, beauty, and excess in literature and films throughout the ages. Transfer on bus to Sagano, and start walking through the lush bamboo grove, admiring the amazing views of the mountains and imposing valleys. It is around 3 km gentle walk. Head to Tenryu- Ji temple, which dates to 1339 and it still stands in the original design. Next, continue to the Jajakko- Ju temple, nestled in the wooded hill. Finish your walk by crossing over the famous Togetsukyo Bridge, overlooking at the stunning views of the hozu river.
