Croatian defense education system • Croatian approach: Down  Top • All military education related topics, issues and proposals come from tactical level (CDA or branches). • Operational and Policy levels (dis)approve of proposed plans and programs • General Staff Directorates maintain coordination and advisory role

Steps to finishing program: STEP 1 STEP 2 STEP 3 • Apply to program • Enroll to the required university • Pass the medical test • Pass the 3-weekSELECTION CAMP • Get the security clearance • Getswornin Finish Basic officers course (9 months) • For three / four years: • Pass all the university academic criteria • Pass all the MoD academic criteria • Pass all the military training • Pass all medical and fitness tests

Cadets academic requirements • Enroll continuously every academic year • Gain more then 45 ECTS annually • Transfer less then 5 exams to next academic year • Cadets may be allowed to repeat one academic year if there were special circumstances • All decisions made by the MoD cadet monitoring group

  11. Cadet military training during the year • Connects and develops training from the military camps and expand their skill levels • Every day (morning or afternoon) • Every third Saturday

First step in the verification all of the military schools and courses • Civil-military model • Live as a soldier, study as the civilan • Succes rate cca 55% • Too many universities, faculties and programs • Hard to focus military training and leadership skills development

LESSONS LEARNED • Introduction to other cultures and exposure to foreign languages. • Growing appreciation and understanding of other militaries efforts and progresses. • Deeper understanding of the nation behind the weaponry, what drives them, motivates them, what breathes in national pride. • Drawing from the military historic lessons as the prerequisite for attaining new ones.

LESSONS LEARNED – CONT. • Experiences from training with the other militaries gives them sense of self-value in comparison to others. • It enables them to test their own skills and knowledge and adapt it to the new circumstances. • Test the ability to live, work and“fight” in the new and changed environment, food, living and sleeping conditions.
