Argentina’s flag • The flag is light blue on top, white in the middle and light blue on the bottom with a sun on the white strip • The colors symbolize the snow and clear skies of the Andean Mountain Range. • The sun is the Sun of May and symbolizes the time when the sun appeared through the clouds on May 25, 1810 when the first independent government was created.

  3. Argentina map This is a map of Argentina and its 23 provinces Argentina is located in South America Argentina is east of Chile Argentina is also south of Bolivia, Paraguay, and Brazil It is west of Uruguay and the South Atlantic Ocean

  4. Buenos Aires • Was named after the patron saint of sailors or simply “good air” • Buenos Aires was built by French, Italian and Spanish immigrants in 1570 • Buenos Aires is thecapitol of Argentina

  5. Currency • The currency of Argentina is the peso. The coin is 1 peso, then paper for 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and so on. • The right picture is a peso from Argentina • The left picture is an 100 peso.

  6. Major exports • One of Argentina’s major exports is processed agricultural products • Another major export is industrial products

Tourist attractions • One tourist attraction is the El Teatro Colon (Colon theater) is located in Buenos Aires • Calle Museo Caminito (The Caminito Street Museum) is another tourist attraction that is also located in Buenos Aires • The Talampaya Canyonis one of the most famous natural attractions

  10. Diego Maradona • Diego Maradona is one of the greatest soccer players of all time. • He won a World Cup, many league titles in Argentina and Italy, and some national Cups in Spain and Italy • He got numerous awards including FIFA Goal of the Century, and FIFA Player of the Century

  11. Religion • A majority of the population of Argentina is Roman Catholic • Only about 20% out of the 90% Roman Catholics go to services regularly

  12. Important event/holiday • In 1812, Jose de San Martin led the Argentina fight against Spain for Independence • July 9, 1816 - The provinces of Argentina officially declared their independence from Spain • People in Argentina celebrate July 9th as Independence Day in Argentina
