2. Languages Spoken in Turlock • Turlock is compromised of many races that include Caucasian, Hispanic, Portuguese, Assyrian, and Asian descent (2012). • In 2010 a real estate website entitled Clrsearch estimated that there were 44, 442 white people living in Turlock with 1,024 African Americans, 3,653 Asians, 24,302 Hispanics, and 13,055 other racial populations (2010). • From 2006 until 2010 the number for languages other than English being spoken in the home of a five year old or older was 42.1 percent (State and County Quickfacts, 2012). • The U.S Census Bureau American Community Survey collected data from 2005 to 2009 and included a wider range of languages. They were English, Spanish, Other Indo-European, Asian with Pacific Islander, and other. • Those that spoke English were 12,737, Spanish was 5,329, Other Indo-European was 1,951, Asian was 608 and there were 1,522 other languages in the Turlock area (Turlock,Ca, 2012).

3. Religion • Mainline Protestants denominations at 49, Evangelical denominations at 185, Catholic Churches at 14, Orthodox was one, and there were 24 other denominations (City-Data, 2010). • It showed five percent from Latter Day Saints also known as the Mormon church, five percent of Southern Baptists Convention, eight percent of Salvation Army, six percent of Assemblies of God, and 22 percent of other organizations (City-data, 2010).

4. Community Income • Turlock’s income and poverty level as a whole in 2009 for residents below the poverty level was 17.6 percent, a three percent rise over the whole state of California (City-data, 2010). In the same year those who were 50 percent below the poverty level was 8.4 percent in comparison to the six percent for the whole state (City-data, 2010). • This site broke down the impoverished residents by races which confirmed that African Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Hispanics rated the highest near 28 percent of low economy level (City-data, 2010). • They also illustrated the family types that seem to be on the lower spectrum of income. Families with only the female present scored the highest at 57 percent with married couples to follow at 36.1% and only males present in the home at 6.8 percent (City-data, 2010). • Those with work experience not a part of families seem to have a greater chance of staying above the poverty level while those with no work experience at all come in at 66 percent of residents in the lower income (City-data, 2010).

5. Social Services Stanislaus County Agency • These resources include family resource centers, Medi-Cal, and Cal works program. Women, Infants, Children (WIC) and Calfresh offices are also available to residents. • Since 2010 the offices have utilized a web and phone based application system for both Medi-cal and Calfresh (Improving Practice-Changing with Time). A task based Case Manager, a team of case managers, was also created for these two resources because there were not enough people to take in all of the cases (Improving Practice-Changing with Time, 2010).

Stanislaus County Agency • Lastly the Voice over the Internet Protocol (VoIP) was implemented so that there was better quality of technology being used for clients through computer data based structure (Improving Practice-Changing with Time, 2010). Their availability to occupants that need additional help is within the comforts of their own town rather than located in another town. This not only makes it easier to access, but clients are able to remain involved so that there are fewer complications with the need of the system.

7. Education • The prevailing levels for Turlock for those who are over 25 years from 2006 to 2010 that were high school graduates were 78.9 percent (State and County Quickfacts, 2012). • For those who are 25 years or older and a college graduate from the year 2006 until 2010 counted up to be 23.9 percent (State and County Quickfacts, 2012). The teacher to student ratio in 2010 was 21:1 (Turlock Ca City Guide, 2010). • Now in 2012, USA.com reports the numbers from all age groups for both private and public schools (2012). The total number of children attending nursery, preschool, or Kindergarten in Turlock is 1,967 (Turlock Ca, 2012). Elementary schools which include grades first to eight are calculated to be 8,335 students (Turlock Ca, 2012). There are 4,867 attending high school and 4,767 attending college (Turlock Ca, 2012). Lastly there are 1,105 students in graduate school (Turlock Ca, 2012). • In total there are 16 public schools, eight private school, and two post-secondary schools in the city of Turlock (Turlock Ca City Guide, 2010).

8. Employment • Neighborhood scout informed that in 2000 Turlock’s per capita income was 16,844 dollars which they compared to a family of four’s yearly earnings of 67,844 dollars (2012). • For Turlock in particular the income per capita in year was 21,223 dollars, the median earnings for males were 34,133 dollars, and the females earnings was 19,068 dollars (Turlock Ca City Guide, 2010). The unemployment rate in 2000 from this same site was reported at 9.2 percent (Turlock Ca City Guide, 2010). • The US Census Bureau displayed a graph analyzing the years to the rate of unemployment. In 2008 the unemployment rate for Turlock was eight percent in January and it increased to 14.5 percent in February 2010 (City and County Quickfacts, 2012). Fortunately the unemployment rate for the city this February of 2012 has gone down to 13.1 percent (City and County Quickfacts, 2012).

9. Major Employers • Men • For males the number on USA.com showed 16,602 men occupying jobs this year (2012). Those that are in management and professional positions counted up to be 4,315, 1,818 in service occupations, 3,208 men were employed in sales and offices work, 867 involved in farming, fishing, or forestry, 2,978 men are construction maintenance workers, and 3,416 men are employed by producers and transporters (Turlock Ca, 2012). Males enlisted in the armed forces of Turlock count up to be 32 (Turlock Ca, 2012). • Women • There are 13,360 Turlock females that are currently employed this year (Turlock Ca, 2012). Positions that are related to the industrial field are also calculated. There are 4,029 retail traders, 366 involved in informatics, 1,471 incorporated with real estate, educational as well as health care and social services is 6,777 employees. Occupations that focus more on the entertainment organizations are 2,019 people (Turlock Ca, 2012).

10. Occupational Health Hazards • Any job can turn stressful or exhausting depending on the situation, therefore, it is an individual’s response on how they view their job for this health hazard. Another health hazard that affects the population and may be a driving factor for health issues is air quality. • Turlock Quality Air Index reports the average air quality index by years then depicts what days are better than others based on the air’s composition (2012). These particles include lead, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide (Turlock Quality Air Index, 2012). In 2008 the site stated that the average quality air index (AQI) was 88 while the whole of California and the United States (US) were at 41. According to their chart where it compares the number of quality air index to a color range, California and the US were at the green level meaning the air was good (Turlock Quality Air Index, 2012). Turlock on the other hand was categorized as a moderate health concern (Turlock Quality Air Index, 2012). In 2009 the Turlock level of AQI had dropped to 46 while the state and the US had dropped to 38(Turlock Quality Air Index, 2012). The air quality has improved however the moderate health concern has gone up and down over the years that it may need to be addressed to the public.
