5. Step 1 - Commitment • Agree to become a “Waste Wise Event. • Involve all stakeholders,vendors,caterers, contractors and cleaners

6. Step 2 - Packaging • Require suppliers and caterers to minimise packaging • and use materials that are: • Recyclable • Compostable • Biodegradable

8. Step 3. - Equipment • use the right equipment for the waste types and volumes that are to be collected • ensure equipment used is consistent

9. Step 4 – Management Systems • match the waste management system to the equipment and packaging • installation • location/position • clearing • responsibility

10. Step 5 - Signage • Without the right signage, people will not know what and where to recycle. • It is important that: • standard signage and colours only are used • signage is consistent • signage is visible

12. Step 6 - Communication & Promotion • Pre-event – suppliers, caterers, vendors, waste contractor, public, sponsors • On The Day – ensure everyone knows how to use the system • Post Event – acknowledge achievements and inform media of successes (after step 7)
