  7. SSEOP in GEOGRAPHY A question that is often asked by students pursuing geography is, "What are we going to do with a degree in Geography?" While there aren't many job titles that are “Geographer," there are many types of positions that fit well with a qualification in Geography.

  8. Educational/Occupational Paths CREATE AWARENESS about your SUBJECT Economic Geography Environmental Geography / Studies Geographic Education Geographic Technology Human /Cultural Geography Physical Geography Regional Geography Urban and Regional Planning

  10. SSEOP in SOCIAL SC. & HISTORY How Can We Use the SSEOP in Our Curriculum? • Current Affairs Presentation – while creating awareness on issues in society, students learn about the outside world; the world beyond the classroom

  11. Spotlight Careers – share experiences/knowledge, notice board display, student presentation, invite those ‘living the dream’, bellwork

  12. Think Aloud – while teaching draw students attention to how this topic relates to a future education or career goal • Design class activities around the work of those in the field – speech (Law), newspaper article (Journalism), collect/analyze data (Weather Officer, Historian), identify crop diseases (Agriculture Officer) etc

  13. Promote inter-disciplinary learning – it removes learning in isolation AND we often never get exactly what we want!! • Be enthusiastic – it will help students believe in the relevance of your subject to their lives

WHY INTERGRATE SSEOP INTO THE CURRICULUM? • Promotes the RELEVANCE of your subject • CONSOLIDATES LEARNING and helps them learn NEW SKILLS • Helps them understand their PROGRESSION ROUTE • Promotes a WHOLE SCHOOL APPROACH • Creates a context for WORK RELATED LEARNING – keeping the end goal in mind
