2. India’s first civilization began in the Indus river valley. a. The Harappa, or Indus civilization lasted from 2600 b.c. -1500 b.c. b. They left no written records.
Around 1500B.C. a new group of people called the Aryans settled in the Indus valley. a. They became farmers and used iron tools and irrigation systems to improve their crops. b. developed a written language called Sanskirt. c. Wrote vedas- books of poems and prayers
4. Ancient India’s society was divided up into a caste system. a. 4 classes (varnas): b. You were born into a class and could not move to another. c. The untouchables- lowest caste, had to live apart from everyone else.
Left- Side Activity- Pg. 68 Draw a diagram to illustrate the Caste System of Ancient India. Include the 4 varnas and job examples for each varna. Give facts about the caste system, too! Color!!! Use Page 225 in the Textbook!!!
