CHAPTER 9. PREVENTING VIOLENCE. What is Violence?. The use Examples- Wars, riots, stabbings, rapes, spouse abuse, child beatings, fights. Most are committed by strangers. Can be an effective way to solve problems. Best form of protection is a gun. Most is racially motivated.

  3. Most are committed by strangers. Can be an effective way to solve problems. Best form of protection is a gun. Most is racially motivated. Certain races are more violent than others. Youth gangs responsible for majority. ½ of victims know their assaulter. Temporary solution to a problem. 2x more likely to be killed. 43x more likely to kill family than intruder. 90% are from same race. Has to do with poverty, not race. 3% are gang-related. 12% by family members. Myths vrs. Facts
