About Our Local Schools • 17 Schools – 10 Elementary, 5 Secondary, 2 Alternative • 12,550 students – 5,100 Elementary, 7,130 Secondary, 300 Alternative

What is Measure BB? • The Measure BB bond measure will improve health, safety and classroom instruction in our local schools. • Measure BB will allow us to make overdue repairs and improvements to aging schools. • Measure BB was placed on the ballot by the School Board to address local school needs.
What needs will Measure BB address? • Some of our local neighborhood schools were built in the 1920s and some portables are aging and need to be replaced. • We need to build and equip early childhood education classrooms, and update electrical systems and wiring for computer technology and Internet access.
Didn’t we already pass other Measures? • Measure X (passed in 1998) was the most recent bond that funded facilities improvements. • Measures Y (passed in 2000) and S (passed in 2003) funded curriculum enhancements.
How will Measure BB funds be spent? • Measure BB will remove asbestos and mold, repair leaking roofs, install and repair fire safety equipments and earthquake retrofit school classrooms and restrooms. • Students will be less vulnerable to getting sick and our schools will be safer in the event of an unanticipated emergency.
Will Measure BB funds be spent as promised? • Measure BB includes strong fiscal accountability protections, including Independent Annual audits, a Citizens’ Oversight Committee to monitor spending. • No money will go to administrator salaries.
Why Measure BB? • Unless Measure BB is adopted, our local neighborhood schools will not get their fair share of millions of dollars in State matching funds from statewide school bond measures. • We need to make improvements to our aging schools, and replace outdated portables so students can learn in clean, healthy classrooms.
