  2. Socrates developed the Socratic Method • Socratic Method- A question and answer format to lead students to understand things for themselves • Based on Socrates belief that knowledge is present within each of us. • The task of philosophy to call forth knowledge

  3. Plato-Student of Socrates • Expressed views on Government in The Republic • Believed that people could not live a good-life unless they lived in a just and rational state (nation) • Plato’s Ideal state- 3 Groups • Rulers • Warriors • Commoners • men and women would have the same access to education and positions • Believed that society should be ruled by a Philosopher King.

  4. Aristotle- Student of Plato • Interested in logic, politics, poetry, astronomy, geology, biology, and physics. • Believed three forms of government would rationally direct humans: • Monarchy • Aristocracy • Constitutional Governments • Aristotle preferred the latter.
