Black boxes indicate positions in the alignment at which the same amino acid is found in at least two of the three sequences. The numbers indicate the amino acid positions within each sequence. The asterisks indicate important functional residues for γ-butyrolactone biosynthesis as proposed by Hsiao et al. (2007).
