Directions Go through the lesson and be sure to pay close attention. There will be a quiz at the end of the lesson .
Introduction • This brief video above will show you the temperatures and distance (in kilometers) for each layer. Enjoy. • Earth has three layers: crust, mantle and the core. • The core is divided into 2 parts: Outer Core and Inner Core.
Crust The Crust contains the Continents and the seas. The thickness is between 15-75 kilometers. It is the smallest layer of the Earth. On the right, there is a video that covers each layer but watch for the information regarding the crust.
Mantle The Mantle is located under the crust. It is the largest layer of the Earth. The Mantle can be divided in two regions: the upper and lower regions. Upper Mantle is 400 kilometers thick and is composed of Iron and Magnesium Silicates Lower Mantle is about 2300 kilometers thick and is more dense (due to pressure).
Core Outer Core 2,300 kilometers thick. Composed of liquid. Mainly is made up of Iron, Nikel and Sulphur. Inner Core 1,220 kilometers thick. Composed of solid. Mainly is made up of Iron, Nikel and Sulphur. Temperature is 6650 Celsius.
Quiz! The quiz will be true/false statements. There will be 4 questions.
