Writing is a Process Editing using electronic markup tools and annotation can encourage students to reflect upon and revise their papers.
Why Bother? • To provide comments about how to improve writing to encourage reflection and revision • Can be used as a method for peer-to-peer editing • Alleviates need to physically move documents from one location to another • Generates an electronic record that can be searched at a later date if there is the suspicion of plagiarism • To create neat and legible comments
Peer-to-Peer Editing • A peer-to-peer editing environment is an opportunity for students to learn from each other • Students will generally be more cognizant of the quality of their writing when they know their writing will be shared with their peers • Peer-to-peer editing can deter many errors from reaching the instructor
The Process • Decide which method will best suit your needs • Student uploads paper • Faculty member (or student peer) edits paper and adds comments • Faculty member (or student peer) uploads commented paper • Student retrieves paper and makes revisions
