Division 84 generalities • Provision of information (one-way or two way) • Mainly about distribution, not the creation of content • but there are exceptions • Mainly about reproduced content rather than originals • but broadcast and programming originals included, as we will see • Products of this division are all output of ISIC Section J – “Information and Communication” • the exception is group 845 – “Library and archive services”

Breakdown of Division 84 • Six groups: • 841 – Telephony and other telecommunications services • 842 – Internet telecommunications services • 843 – On-line content • 844 – News agency services • 845 – Library and archive services • 846 – Broadcasting, programming and programme distribution services

Group 841: Telephony and other telecommunications services • Telecommunications: two-way transmission of information • All these product linked to ISIC Rev.4 division 61 – “Telecommunications” • All these products considered ICT products in the alternative aggregation for “Products of the information economy” • Change since CPC Ver.1.1: “Programme distribution services” no longer part of this group. • This activity moved to the new group 846 for broadcasting

  5. Group 842: Internet telecommunications services • Telecommunication services over the internet • Does not include all activities provided or accessed over the Internet • Like group 841: • links to ISIC Division 61 • Considered ICT products in the alternative aggregation • Change since CPC Ver.1.1: differentiation between narrowband and broadband Internet access

  6. Group 843: On-line content • The actual information accessed over the Internet • Downloading ≠ streaming • On-line software ≠ software downloads • Used to be 1 single group/class/subclass in CPC Ver.1.1

  7. Group 844: News agency services • Services of gathering, investigating and supplying news to media businesses • No changes since CPC Ver.1.1

  8. Group 845: Library and archive services • Services of collecting, cataloguing, conserving and retrieving books and archives (including lending services) • No change since CPC Ver.1.1

  9. Group 846: Broadcasting, programming and programme distribution services • One-way, mass communication • Completely new group • Radio, television • all linked to ISIC Rev.4 6010 – “Radio broadcasting” and 6020 – “Television programming and broadcasting”
