Mr. Delinski (Mr. D.) • Born and raised in East Peoria. • Attended Shute, Lincoln, Glendale, CJHS, and East Peoria Community High School • Graduate of: • CJHS 2000 (Baseball, Newspaper) • EPCHS 2004 (Student Council, Baseball, Golf) • University of Illinois 2008, 2011 • Attended ICC, University of Illinois (Bachelor’s & Master’s Degree) • Worked as an aide & baseball coach during the 2008-2009. • 2016-2017 marks my sixth year of teaching! • Coach baseball here & at EPCHS and I used to coach track and basketball. • Favorite subject in school: History, but in college I realized my passion for math! • My favorite sports teams: Chicago White Sox, Illinois Fighting Illini, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Chicago Blackhawks • Favorite Food: Pizza (Especially from Papa Del's in Champaign) • Favorite Beverages: Diet Dr. Pepper

ENTERING & EXITING • Seats are assigned; you are tardy if not in the assigned seat when the bell rings. • The teacher dismisses the class, not the bell. • You must have a pass to leave the room during class time, and then only for an emergency. Emergencies are RARE. Use the restroom during passing times. • Sign Out Sheet: • On desk by the door. • Always sign out and back in with your location.

STUFF IN THE ROOM • Do not touch the projector or white boards without permission. • Check with me before opening or closing windows or adjusting fans in the room. • Do not bring toys to class; I take them. • Candy, food, or drinks (other than water) are not allowed unless I give specific permission. • If I see or hear a cell phone, you will be disciplined according to handbook procedures.

18. CALLSIGN • What is a callsign? • Nickname given to pilots. • Reflects their flying style, personality, or . • Examples • Stump: A very short and stout pilot. • Iceman: Flies “Ice Cold…No Mistakes.” • Maverick: Dangerous flying and doesn’t follow rules

19. YOUR CALLSIGN • On the note card: • Write your name. • Write 3 nicknames no one else will know that describes you (You will write more than one in case there are similar names). • Your callsign: • This is your personal info (don’t tell others) • This will be the name on the data chart.

MAP TEST DATA SHEET • The info: • Your 7th grade Spring MAP score • MAP Data for 2014-2015: • Set goals • (You should gain AT LEAST 4 points from 7th grade to 8th grade). • Fill in your data when you take your test. • If you meet or surpass your goal, you will be rewarded. • This is in the same Google Sheet as your classroom data.

23. MAP REWARDS (INDIVIDUAL) If I ask you your score: • You must tell me your most recent score. • If you know it, you will receive candy or extra credit. If you meet your MAP goals for a test: • Candy, extra credit, or homework pass. If you have one of the top 3 point gains from Fall to Spring • You receive a “Top Dog Award” (A gift card to your favorite restaurant).

27. NUMBER TALK WARM UP A daily warm up. 1 math problem Discussion Each day a group will be assigned to present the problem each day. Leader will lead this discussion.

29. CLASSWORK • I give homework, but it’s not long and can be finished in class. • Work is expected on time. I expect all students to turn in all homework. • 5 Points off for each day late • Until an assignment is turned in, it is a 0 in my gradebook. • Neatness counts; if I can’t read it, I can’t grade it.

30. WHAT TO DO IF YOU’RE ABSENT Email (delinskij@epd86.org) or call (427-5235) to let me know you’ll be gone. Look online (mrdelinskicjhs.weebly.com) for Mr. Delinski’s posted material (If you email me, I can send you the work). Ask/call classmates to see what you missed. Check your folder when you return for work.

33. MR. DELINSKI’S MATH CLASSROOM PRACTICES Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. Reason abstractly and quantitatively. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. Model with mathematics. Use appropriate tools strategically. Attend to precision. Look for and make use of structure. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.

42. Practice Standards Poster Create a poster using your assigned practice standards. Your poster must include at least 4 ideas from the practice standards. Your group will receive the same grade for the poster. Examples of last years are on my website.
