Another Similar Story • Mat. 26:6-13; Mk.14:1-9; Jn. 12:1-8 • Jesus is anointed with expensive perfume • by a woman in Bethany who wiped His feet with her hair (John) • The anointing takes place in the house of a man named Simon
Differences In The 2 Stories • Simon the Pharisee (Lk) -vs- Simon the Leper • woman at Bethany not spoken of as sinful - appears to be Mary, Lazarus' sister. • the anointing at Bethany is to prepare Jesus for burial
Differences In The 2 Stories • criticism by disciples (Judas) over the value of the perfume that is "wasted" rather than the criticism of the morals of the woman (Lk) doing the anointing

Jesus tells Simon a story • a moneylender (v.41-43) • one owed 500 denarii • one owed 50 denarii • neither could repay the lender • lender graciously forgave both debts • who loved the lender the most? • one forgiven the most
Jesus makes the application • Jesus while looking at the woman spoke to Simon (v.44-47) • “Do you see this woman?” • given no water for My feet • - she wet My feet with tears • given no kiss • - she continually kisses My feet • did not anoint My head with oil • - she anointed feet with perfume
“Your sins have been forgiven.” • “Who is this man who even forgives sins?” (v.49) • “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” (v.50)
