JUSTIFICATION OF THE PROPOSALOut of the 11 million people in Malawi more than 4 million are Muslims. There are quite a number of Islamic primary and secondary schools but unfortunately no Islamic institution of high learning has been established and this to some extent deprives the Muslims from international opportunities to be employed as Arabic interpreters. • ASUM provides full boarding within the campus for those students enrolled for the degree in Islamic studies at affordable and subsidized fees.It is from this background that ASUM thought of annexing the department of Islamic studies to its existing courses offered to give an opportunity to Muslims and those who want to learn more about the perfected religion and its teachings and customs. • Apart from the objectives of ASUM for quality education, the institution also believes in shaping the morale behavior of the community for both individual and society development.
MARKET ANALYSISLooking at the population of Muslims in the country, the introduction of the program would meet the needs of the Muslim community. • MONITORING AND EVALUATIONThere shall be a system of monitoring and evaluating activities in the Department of Islamic studies to see to it that the aims and objectives of the course are achieved. Use of classic reports that will be produced on monthly basis is one of the best methods of evaluation. Furthermore, lecturers will be required to submit progress report periodically, and such reports shall be submitted to the respective authorities. • CONCLUSIONASUM believes that the introduction of the department of islamic studies is a new chapter in the history of Malawi more especially in the education sector. The course will help to boost the morale behavior of Malawians which is the best ingredient of economic, social and political development of the country. Malawi does not need highly qualified manpower but also manpower which is responsible to the society. The course therefore, is viable and needs to be supported.
