The rose is thought to have originated in Persia and then spread to the Mediterranean. The oldest known fossil of a rose is from 35 million years ago and was found in Colorado. Why do we continue to give red rose flowers on Valentine's Day? The simple answer is that they remain an incredibly popular gift that conveys all the right sentiments.
