  2. Problem Statement Which brand of paper towel is the strongest?

  4. Hypothesis If we test different brands of paper towels, then Bounty DuraTowel will be the strongest.

  5. Materials Bounty regular pennies Bounty Basic water Bounty DuraTowel graduated cylinder Tuf paper towel tray Brawny Decorator Towel Publix paper towel

Procedures • Dunk the paper towel in 20ml of water. • Take it out of the water and gently squeeze the extra water. • Two people hold the paper towel by the corners while another person carefully places the pennies on the paper towel one at a time. • Continue placing pennies until the paper towel breaks. Do not count the penny that rips the paper towel. • Repeat steps 1-4 with the same brand of paper towel two times. • Repeat steps 1-5 with all of the brands.

  9. Results DuraTowel had the highest average, 376 pennies. The rest in order of greatest to least are Bounty, 285; Brawny, 212; Bounty Basic, 185; Publix, 147; Decorator, 145; Tuf, 82. Tuf came in last place.

  10. Conclusion Our hypothesis was supported by our experiment. This was probably because DuraTowel was thicker than the other brands. The thicker brands held more pennies than the thinner ones.

  11. Application • The next time we go to the supermarket we will buy DuraTowel. We noticed that Brawny was much smaller than the other towels. We wonder what would happen if all the brands were the same size.

  13. Abstract We wanted to know which brand of paper towel is the strongest. We dampened each brand of paper towel, then placed as many pennies as we could until it was torn. DuraTowel was the strongest.
