Notable Campus Resources Distinctive Strength: Many centers (UPCRC, PPL, NCSA), successful products (Mathematica, Rocstar), and projects (SEASR, MONK) across disciplines Area needing attention at campus level Advanced Visualization Lab (NCSA) VizLab (SCS) Integrative Imaging (Beckman) Distinctive Strength: NCSA Resources Turing Cluster in CSE IGB & private clusters Teragrid site Proposed shared cluster IDEALS institutional repository Many digitization projects in Library NCSA hosts a number of major datasets, including (soon) the data from the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope) Research Technology Facilitator Pilot Project Needs attention Network: 10-Gbps campus backbone connects to ICCN (the University’s fiber ring), which connects to commercial carriers, Internet2, and other Research & Education Networks at the CIC OmniPoP. Building connections are 1-10 Gbps. Federated ID management, Eduroam access to wireless, collaboration tools (wiki, netfiles), conferencing (Adobe Connect, MeetingPlace, WebEx)

  3. Every professor and every student is the center of an unbounded network of social and technical resources.

  4. Good support gets added to this network as a node.

  5. Great support helps to build this unbounded personal network.
