IDB Focus in Health • Total Financing from 1976 to 2014: US$2.255 billion • Focus in Health • Health system strengthening with focus on maternal, neo natal and child health • Fighting major global pandemics ( Malaria, Polio, Cancer, Cardiovascular…) • Social protection (e.g. social health insurance, Community health Insurance, etc.). • Innovative Financing for Health interventions • Triple win initiative (Polio in Pakistan with BMGF)

Achieving Self-Reliance in Vaccine Production in the Islamic World Program • Strategic Objective: • To achieve self-reliance of the Islamic World in the production of vaccine. • Program Objectives: • Enhance cooperation among OIC producers in R&D, Production, Sales and Marketing. • Promote institutional, human and technical capacity building of OIC producers. • Expand/upgrade existing facilities and improve quality control procedures. • Assist producers in obtaining WHO certification.
Achieving Self-Reliance in Vaccine Production in the Islamic World Program (cnt) • Approval date: Dec. 1999 • Total Amount: US$5.6 million
Pre-requisites for Modality of IDB Financing • Official request from IDB Governor • Feasibility study/detailed project document • Part of the country development plan/MCPS
Way Forward • Using the SRVP Program facility to Enhance Cooperation between MCs through Exploring the possibility of initiating Reverse Linkage in Vaccine Production, • Submit Specific Request to IDB to address the development needs of Vaccine producers
