  1. Laparoscopic versus Open Partial Nephrectomy: A Tertiary Centre’s Experience FR Youssef, MD Haynes, PE Cutinha, DJ Smith, NE Oakley Introduction: NSS regarded as open procedure Does NSS have greater morbidity? [1] Is this compounded by laparoscopic approach? [1] Van Poppel H et al - Eur Urol 2011 Apr;59:543-552

  2. Method & Technique • Kidney mobilised within Gerota’s fascia, but peri-renal fat over tumour is preserved • Hilar vessels are identified, dissected and controlled with bulldog clamps • Sharp dissection of lesion occurs under warm ischaemia • 0-vicryl figure of 8 sutures are used for mass closure from the apex of the defect • Tisseel glue is applied to surface

  3. Shorter hospital stay • Satisfactory long-term preservation in renal function, despite longer WIT Conclusion: This demonstrates the benefits of LPN in patients with single exophytic tumours performed by highly experienced laparoscopists
