First lets review a common factor • A common factor is when two or more numbers have the same numbers as factors. • Example: Factors of 12 and 30 • Factors of 12 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 12 • Factors of 30 are 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 15 and 30 • What are ALL the common factors?
Common Factors of 12 and 30 • 1, 2, 3, 6 • These four numbers are all factors of both the numbers of 12 and 30. Therefore they are said to be the common factors.
GCF – Greatest Common Factor • It is simply the largest of the common factors. • The "Greatest Common Factor“ or GCF is the largest of the common factors (of two or more numbers) .
