How can I help my child on the Georgia Milestones? GMAS Night Marlow elementary
Before test day… Discuss the test with your child in a positive way without making them feel pressured. Review any materials that you have been keeping at home such as study guides and graded work. Encourage them to do their very best work on testing days. Remind them to read everything on the test and to listen to their teacher’s directions very carefully. Once students are testing, we cannot repeat directions. Tell them that you are proud of them! Tell them that it is normal to be a little anxious during the test. Let them know that you know they can do well.
Tips for test day… Make sure your student gets a full night’s rest the night before each of the testing dates. Students should eat breakfast before the test. However, be careful that they are not eating more/less than they usually do. Make sure that the student’s clothing is comfortable. It might not be the best day to wear that new pair of shoes! Keep the morning routine as close to normal as possible. Handle all last minute details the night before (wardrobe issues, pack book bag, sign papers, etc.). Make sure the student arrives to school on time. Once testing has begun, a student may not enter the classroom until that section of the testing is completed.
During the school day… Testing will consist of three days for third grade: Day 1 is Reading Comprehension and Writing, Day 2 is Reading Comprehension, and Day 3 will be the Math sections. Students will be required to type an essay. Students will be testing on Chromebooks in their homeroom. Testing will be done during the morning hours.
