A 2-Step Role Changing • A starter to understand the AOS • A practitioner of building and propagatingAOS in the community
Step1: Starter Be prepared • A sound understanding of the AOS proposal and its scientific mechanism behind • A rapid knowledge retrieval and accumulation of semantic web and constructions tools • Refereeing to the AOS metadata schemas and that defined by Chinese researchers in CAAS, develop or enhance the existing ontology relevant to southern China
Step2: Practitioner To leverage • A typical instance of AOS deployment in China • To leverage the current information service on the AOS deployment • Fitness and generality of the knowledge base • New applications development w/ stronger functions and collaborating w/ much wider application areas • The communication mechanism (correspondent software facilities, i.e. agents) established between service applications • The time duration of finishing above tasks, efforts of propagation, and the acceptance by end users affectedBy
Discussion and Conclusion • It is difficult to make a generic instance in a short run in agricultural community • from the standpoint of practical service provider, i.e. ISTI, detailed techniques still need more studies and convenient tools for smooth update need to be developed
Q&A • An Ontology for Agriculture in Southern China (can be a sub-Ontology for China AOS), is the direction right? • Which should be the starting point, subset of Agrovoc? • Information center: FAO AOS group? • Manpower
