Brief History • This is our 3rd Annual Event at CSC: • First SICoP Special Conference, February 6, 2007. • Fourth SICoP Special Conference, February 5, 2008. • The Semantic Interoperability Community of Practice (SICoP) is established by a group of individuals for the purpose of achieving "semantic interoperability" and "semantic data integration" focused on the government sector. The SICoP seeks to enable Semantic Interoperability, specifically the "operationalizing" of these technologies and approaches, through online conversation, meetings, tutorials, conferences, pilot projects, and other activities aimed at developing and disseminating best practices. The individuals making up this CoP represent a broad range of government organizations and the industry and academic partners that support them. • Now SICoP has graduated to the Semantic Community – Semantic Exchange Partnership: • See http://semanticommunity.net

Recent Activities • January 15, 2009, Interagency Working Group on Digital Data and Data Reference Model Comments. • See http://federaldata.wik.is/ • Mills Davis Summary of DRM 2.0 Comments: • So much of information sharing now can be done bottom-up by simply adopting Web 2 (WOA) and Web 3 (RDF) semantic standards for linked data. It's pretty easy, and not expensive to expose information and provide a way to get at it. So just do it. • Once the data and its structure are exposed along with some definition of the concepts and a web service method for accessing it, then it becomes straight-forward to analyze what somebody else's data means and, further, decide what is needed to interrelate one piece of information, or one knowledge structure, to another.
